About wild blue counseling
Therapy that feels human.
I created Wild Blue Counseling to be the kind of therapy practice I’d actually want to go to.
A place where you don't have to know the right thing to say. Where you can swear, laugh, cry, change your mind, or admit the thing you've been trying really hard not to admit.
Therapy doesn't have to feel clinical or overly polished to do meaningful work. In fact, I think some of the best work happens when you can stop performing and start being honest about what's actually going on.
You don’t need to have it all figured out before we meet.
A lot of people come to therapy knowing something isn't working, but not necessarily knowing why.
Maybe you're exhausted from thinking about everything all the time. You keep replaying conversations, anticipating what could go wrong, or trying to make sure everyone around you is okay.
Maybe you understand your patterns intellectually, but somehow keep ending up in them anyway.
Or maybe you've gotten really good at functioning while quietly feeling overwhelmed underneath it all.
You don't need a perfectly articulated reason for being here. We can figure that part out together.
Therapy should help you understand yourself, not just feel better.
Feeling better matters. Of course it does.
But I don't want therapy to only help you get through a hard week and send you back out to repeat the same patterns.
I want to help you understand what's underneath them.
Why does your brain immediately go there? Why is it so hard to say no without feeling guilty? Why do you shut down, overthink, people-please, stay too long, or assume you're the problem?
Usually, those patterns didn't come out of nowhere. At some point, they probably made sense.
Therapy gives us a chance to understand them, decide what still fits, and start doing something different.
My job isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you understand yourself well enough to build a life that feels more like you.
What therapy at Wild Blue looks like
I take the work seriously. I just don't think that means therapy has to feel stiff.
Some sessions might go deep. Some might be practical. Sometimes we'll connect something happening in your life now to something you haven't thought about in years. Sometimes I'll teach you a skill you can actually use when your brain decides 2 a.m. is the perfect time to analyze your entire existence.
And yes, sometimes we'll laugh.
I use evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT-informed skills, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy. But I don't believe therapy should feel like I'm running you through a treatment manual.
The approach should fit the person sitting in front of me, not the other way around.
Wild Blue Counseling
Wild Blue is a virtual therapy practice for adults in Texas, Colorado, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
I work primarily with people dealing with anxiety, trauma, overthinking, difficult relationship patterns, boundaries, burnout, and the general experience of looking pretty functional from the outside while having a whole lot going on underneath.
I'm Annie Poage, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the therapist behind Wild Blue.
And while my training matters, I think the relationship you have with your therapist matters too. You should be able to talk to me like a person. You can disagree with me. You can tell me something didn't land. You don't have to protect my feelings or try to be a "good therapy client."
You just get to show up.
You don’t have to decide right now.
Finding a therapist is weirdly personal. A website can only tell you so much.
That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation. It's a chance to talk for a few minutes, tell me a little about what you're looking for, ask questions, and see how the conversation feels.
No pressure to have your whole story ready.
